"What Is Certified Translation in Malaysia?"
Understanding Officially Recognized Certified Translation Services for Legal and Government Use
In Malaysia, a certified translation is an officially recognized translation of a document completed by professional translators and verified for accuracy and authenticity with an official stamp or certification statement. Certified translations are required for use by government agencies, courts, immigration departments, universities, and foreign embassies. Only translations endorsed by Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia (ITBM), the Malaysian Translators Association (MTA), or Court-appointed translators are officially recognized. Certification chops from individual translators or translation agencies are not accepted unless accompanied by the official stamp of ITBM, MTA, or the Court. Court-certified translations must be applied for and paid through the court, as court-appointed translators cannot work freelance. Certified translations are essential for legal proceedings, immigration applications, academic submissions, and corporate or personal documentation, ensuring acceptance by authorities locally and internationally.
